But the Yorkshire growers jealously guarded their secret - strangers weren't

Reminded me of the April Fool's joke on the old "Tonight" programme.
They took microphones into a rhubarb shed saying that a university
experiment had found that plants did indeed talk. All seemed very pukka
and scientific, there was this murmuring in the background, then they
slowly turned up the volume, gradually you realised that the rhubarb
were muttering:
"People, people people"

If anyone is interested, they do tours of the forcing sheds and
Wakefield council runs events.
