its a small part time gardening business only 3 days a week. mower will not
be going all day as i will be doing hedge cutting, tidying borders, sweeping
paths etc too

So it has to be petrol and will mainly be medium sized lawns, wanted
something new so i have the 12 month warranty

Nobody suggested it would be "going all day". However, it will
certainly be used far more often and in more varied and less ideal
conditions than a normal domestic owner would which means abnormal wear
and tear. If you had any experience of such work you would know that.
Many of the people advising you here DO have experience of contract work
and the comparison between domestic machines and commercial ones.

So it has to be petrol and will mainly be medium sized lawns, wanted

You'll find a warranty for domestic models excludes commercial use.
You may try to conceal that usage, but it will be obvious to any repair
shop that it's had an unusual amount of wear and tear for its age.

IMHO, if you buy a cheap domestic machine for commercial use (I'm
afraid that price range IS the cheap end of the petrol lawnmower market)
you're throwing money down the drain. Worse, as soon as the first
breakdown, you'll be letting down clients and losing their custom.

Another stupidly inappropriate assumption based on your own ignorance
and inexperience. Something tells me you're not cut out for a service
industry.

If you are using a mower for commercial work, you will not be able to
use the domestic 12 month warranty that it comes with.

Many items you buy will not have commercial warranty, or at the very
most only 3 months.

That applies for most items you buy from the 'trade' centers like B&Q
etc

I can wear out 'wreck' a Mountfield 'domestic' self propelled mower
that cost £500 in only 6 months of heavy useage.

I sometimes use a light domestic electric mower for small patches, but
even then I might get a year or so out of them.
