Tut Tut!!! Suggesting using products for pest control that have not been approved for use by DEFRA PSD is illegal!!!

There's no doubt that surfactant-based products work against many different arthropod pests as they have a direct effect on the wax that they produce to protect them from rain and condensation. Check this link out to learn mo

Pest Effects

Michael Adams and I have touched on this subject before.
Is it illegal or not for an individual to knock up his own formulations for
use in his own garden?

I don't imagine so. However, it's a very confusing area! I was going to use a solution of washing-up liquid a while ago to bring earthworms to the surface on a community green. I checked with the authorities and was told that it's illegal to use anything that isn't officially aprooved for use or registered for use as a pesticide. Anything that affects the behaviour of an organism has to be aprooved before use. Have a read of this http://www.pesticides.gov.uk/approvals.asp?id=882
