Default Plague of flying things

I was out for a walk along the North East coast yesterday and was constantly
walking through greenfly and other tiny flying bugs. The wind was warm and
from the South.
Get the sprayer out!

I suspect they were St Marks fly or flying ants. They seem to hatch out
everywhere on the same day. There are millions round here today and
yesterday, especially near Oil Seed Rape.

Too early. Thrips (Thunderbugs in E Yorkshire appear around the time of
harvest)

Why would we want to kill you with a spray gun just for perambulating
among zephyrs, Jim? You seem pretty harmless so far, for all we know
you just go about your daily life causing no harm to anyone. It would be
foolish to spray you with something toxic and then realise you are
actually of benefit to mankind, or at least, to this newsgroup.
