Did you see "holidays from hell" or similar title on TV last night,
about crews putting laxatives in non-tipping-customers' coffee, and
other nasties. Never fancied cruising and fancy it even less now!!!

Pam in Bristol

So you put the same 'story' to ALL crew members, ALL cruise ships and ALL
cruise lines do you?
And because it was on TV 'it must be true to all cruising'?

What about 'Plumbers from Hell'? Are ALL plumbers the same?
What about bad meat from a certain supermarket? Are ALL Meat Departments
from ALL supermarkets the same?

Bad news makes the news. If you take that one story from one programme and
ALLOW it to convince you that the story is applicable to ALL cruising and
all elements of cruising, then you are cutting off your nose to spite your
face.

I have now done 3 cruises with Thomsons, 1 so far, the Round the World with
P&O, but have 2 more booked with P&O and 1 booked with Cunard on their new
Queen Victoria in 2007.

One very satisfied cruiser here and I could point you to many many more
satisfied cruisers who book again and again and again, for example, one
couple on our table on the Round the World had already booked the Round the
World 2007 before we left the ship in March. Another couple off our table,
emailed us in July to say they had taken another cruise and were on it at
the time of emailing. Try booking the new Queen Victoria for her Maiden
Canaires in December 2007, yes seven! When I went in to book 5 staterooms
for my family, I had a choice .......... from only 7 left!

however, it was on TV so it must be true ...... like Eastenders and
Coronation Street etc etc etc :-(((((

Pretty much.

Yep. Filthy robbers. I do my own.

Why? what's good about being stuck with thousands of smelly guests on
a boat for weeks on end? The council estates have more room!

Wickes 220l sturdy water butt with lid, tap and stand for £22.

Now that does sound good - what size is it?

At a guess, 220l?

er - what units?

Can't be 2201 litres and 2201 millilitres would be a little on the
dinky side ...

Look at your '1' and your 'l', Mary! Then look at the original. I'd say it
was a 220l butt...

Right, thanks. A space would have made it clear, don't you think? Or a
capital L ... 220L. Yes, that's easier for old folk to understand :-)

Blackpool perhaps?

I like Edinburgh myself but it doesn't have the name running through so
could be made anywhere.

Well done! If you're not too worried about aethetics, inexpensive
buckets and even dustbins make fantastic large containers and help keep
costs down. I keep quite a few large palms in pots and because I'm
loathe to leave them here when I decide to move on, I occasionally need
very large pots/tubs to keep them on the go. Opting for the
conventional way, big tree pots could cost 20+ quid apiece. Dustbins
with lots of holes drilled in the base are barely a few quid each and
equally as effective.

As for my best buy this year, I never thought I'd say it but it was a
plant from B&Q of all places! They had a sale earlier (well, one of
the many they seem to hold each year) and were knocking out very
good-sized tree ferns for comparative peanuts. I picked up a really
thick trunk that weighed a ton, just over 5.5ft tall for £59.00.
Based upon the normal retail price of around £25.00 per foot of trunk,
it was barely a third of the cost you'd normally expect to pay. That
was in early April and it was leafless at the time, but the top was
stuffed with 'knuckles'. A few months later together with a bit of TLC
and it has 19 arching fronds each between 5 and 7feet long, plus
several more still to unfurl. Its a brilliant plant and a seriously
good buy.

I saw them (the tree ferns) in B+Q in Dublin in June and I was sickened
by the cheapness. They have suddenly dropped in price. I have spent 8
years growing 7 of them (badly; I did not know how to do it) from
spores and the biggest ones are only about 1 foot of trunk max and
maybe 1 metre frond length. For relatively little, I could have just
bought some and they would be MUCH bigger than the ones I have. My
ones have great sentimental value and I have learned a lot but it was a
bit daft looking back and a lot of work as they moved house with us 3
years ago and it gets harder and harder to repot the ones that are
still in pots.

Des in Dublin
