Default Strawberries

Hi,

I am very new to gardening and am almost entirely reliant on my
gardener for the basics.

However, today, I planted out some Calendula and strawberries into
seed trays and covered them, ready for germination. The trouble is,
I'm not sure whether I should leave them out in the greenhouse to
germinate, or bring them in to the garage which gets a fair bit of
light but where it is probably a fair bit warmer. The packets for both
sets of seeds said that I should plant them indoors in February but I
just don't know whether that means inside a greenhouse, or inside an
unheated but protected garage.

Can anybody help me?

Thanks

Howard

Strawbs seeds (and calendula) need light but heat as well. I'd keep
them in the greenhouse, as the weather improves, the sun will warm up
your greenhouse. I'm not sure about your garage lighting - it's far
too artificial. I have covers for my seeds trays, and also use plastic
bags on twigs to provide warmth and keep the moisture in. Do you have
them covered too?

Howard putting them in the greenhouse will be fine but at this time of
year, with the temperature dropping below zero, they will not survive
without a little heat. Why not start them of indoors and when fully
germinated, move them to the greenhouse, but you will need some heat
until the nights get a bit warmer.

I hope that helps.
