So far this month I have "Won" over £20 million in these wonderful
lotteries, IF ONLY.
You will find that they are sent to Undisclosed recipient, Microsoft
lottery or other non specific recipients.

All on one lucky day last year I discovered that I too had won the World
lottery AND won a car in an internet prize draw AND a long lost relative
in Nigeria had died in a plane crash leaving me his vast fortune.
I seem to be rolling in it (manure that is :-)

I think we all get it. I certainly get lots of that kind of spam and,
like you, I find some of the things they offer quite funny.

I must say that these people are getting more sophisticated. they are
now sending emails claiming that you are due a tax rebate (now that IS
plausible) giving an apparent Inland revenue web site.

I was amazed to read the other day that this country lost about £3.2 billion
on these prepayment scams, or what we used to call "Nigerian" fraud in
Banking in the pre computer days. Yes, they have been around that long.
Amazing how people believe this sort of stuff, they've won a lottery they
haven't entered, someone they don't know is going to give them a big chunk
of a fortune if they help move it from one country to another, just send
£10,000 up front to show good faith, yeh right.
But £3.2 billion means a lot fall for it.

Sasha is the Russian diminutive for both Alexander and Alexandra, so it is ambiguous, like Alex would be in English. Since the former is more common in Russia, there are more male Sashas than female ones. Likewise Misha being the Russian diminutive for both male and female forms of Michael is more likely to be male than female there. In Britain there is a general assumption that names ending in A are female, so these names are more often given to girls. This causes endless confusion for Italians called Andrea (Italian for Andrew).

One way that Sacha can arise is as the French spelling of Sasha.

The diminutive for Ivan (my name, but I'm not Russian) is Vanya.

Ah - I was under the impression that Sacha was the Russian diminutive for
Alexander and Sasha was that for Alexandra. I was actually christened
Sandra but my brother couldn't say that and purely by coincidence I ended up
as Sacha (my younger self's choice of spelling) Nobody ever calls me
Sandra, except my mother when she's cross and then I get the full soup and
fish!
