Help a beginner!
I'm a keen weeder and efficient tidy-upper of my garden, but I'd like to do so more.
Could anyone suggest any books I could buy to learn a more in-depth knowledge of gardening. There are so many books on various subjects out there, that I'm not sure where to actually start. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated! |

Well, there's lots out there as you've said - I collect a few myself! However, I think if there's one I would give to someone who loves his/ her garden, who loves life and love to be part of something much better and much bigger, with facts and humour, interesting and very relevant happenings all around our country in other people's gardens and allotments, explanation of different way of growing food, from soil care to growing your plants stock etc., I would recommend The Organic Garden by Allan Shepperd. Then I'd go to a book shop and select a couple of books with examples of planting schemes, something which would give me lots of ideas. Advice on sowing times, planting times, cuttings and pruning ect can be found at the above links on the RHS others have given you. There's nothing better than a good read though, especially if it's about something we are passionate about - it's the whole picture we need to see and then the ideas start coming!! Good luck. |
