(I was taught to make pizza by a native Italian. I worked in the family - their family - ice-cream factory.) Her youngest son saw my lunch one day - big round of pizza - and snarfed a bit. "Coo! Where did you get this?" "Made it yesterday." "It's better than my mother makes. Who taught you to make it?" "Your mother." Lidl in Barnstaple has dry cured bacon, and real German sausages too, not sure about the beer cos we don't drink it ;) Apparently they've got some good wine deals at present, too. -- Sacha http://www.hillhousenursery.com South Devon |

We bought some good Bordeaux from Lidl last year. One problem is that if you a buy a bottle to take home and try and it turns out to be good, the whole lot has sold before you can get back for more. Since they sell more or less the same wine all over Europe, it's worth comparing notes. I'll do a web hunt for reviews, too. I was introduced to this some years ago and it is a lovely day to day white wine, but certainly not vin ordinaire. It is delicious chilled to within an inch of its life. Lidl in France are selling it for 1 Euro something, a similar wine in the UK would cost in the region of around £8-9 per bottle. I don't know its keeping qualities, Edward is going to ring one of the vinyards, if it is a keeper, we are going to put down a few crates. Judith |

I was told around £4 but I haven't tasted the stuff yet. ;-) Not tried LiDL's wines, and I drink very little these days, but ALDI have a Baron St Jean red at about 4 GBP which suits me, because I like light wines. Most folk would call it "thin", but it's very inoffensive. ;-) The white equivalent I find undrinkable, having tried a couple of bottles. -- Gordon H |
