At the top of this page named Gallery Index, there is also a dropdown box marked Select with every page number in it. I agree that the Salvias on the pages seem to be at random but I just click on the one I'm interested in that's in the named listing on that Gallery Index page. There's no "view gallery" on my screen Sacha I'm sure someone else can explain that. I can't! When I tried to look at the web site there was next to nothing to be seen. I didn't look into it in detail, but I assume that the web page depends on you having JavaScript or worse turned on. -- Stewart Robert Hinsley |

While some are still distrustful of Java, the modern (!) consensus seems to be that it's here and it's not going away and it's fine. I imagine we all have to adjust poco a poco because not all of the people can be pleased all of the time! -- Sacha http://www.hillhousenursery.com South Devon |

I have mine switched off but am prompted to allow it if the site requires it, so if I go to say your new site I can say yes if I want it but if I am generally looking via google it stops a lot of nonesense being inflicted on me I was not actually expecting it. It would explain the different experiences. -- Charlie Pridham, Gardening in Cornwall www.roselandhouse.co.uk Holders of national collections of Clematis viticella cultivars and Lapageria rosea |

When our new site was designed I (briefly) discussed the Java issue with the site builder and he in turn discussed it with site designers/builders he works with. I'm hopeless at understanding the techie side of these things but the general consensus of their opinions was that most sites use Java now. -- Sacha http://www.hillhousenursery.com South Devon |

Just a small correction :-) Java is not the same thing as Java Script: Java is a programming language but JavaScript is a scripting language. Unless I allow the scripts, my browser cannot follow links etc and nor does it permit any background jiggery-pokery, so I allow scripts only from the sites I trust. Getting back to Salvia, you know I've been quite taken with this site. Some 30 years ago I started a collection of the shrubby Central and South American sages' and became quite fanatical about them for a while. This site has certain stirred up old fascinations for the more tender types. It has also reminded me to renew my search for seed or plants of the pure Salvia splendens, which makes a medium sized, head- high shrub with long racemes of vivid scarlet flowers. A million miles from those stubby 'bedding Salvias' and a million times better as well. |
