Default Protecting Fruit Trees

Originally posted in edible gardening but Ill also post here for a more specific UK slant.

I have a young cherry tree, with nice healthy looking buds on it. Any harm in protecting the buds from the snow/cold by wrapping the branches with bubble wrap. Or is this a complete waste of time as the tree is pretty well sheltered by a wall and south (ish) facing?
