Petunia problem
Hi.
Wonder if anyone could help me here please. Have had for approx 5 yrs now and take a few cuttings most yrs and also over wintering mother plants. Last yr had masses and masses of flowers. The flower is almost fist size,a double Petunia. This year when plants planted in baskets etc they seemed to be doing fine, the last month or so the leaves started going like this in one of the pictures then tend to drop off, buds that were forming are now staying at cherry size and do not grow any bigger. Have 5 baskets with them in and 4 of them are badly affected. They have been watered and fed (Miragrow ?) as other yrs but they appear to be dying. Pics are of a heathy one (for now) and of typical leaf. http://img229.imageshack.us/img229/784/p7300005.jpg http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/614/p7300004.jpg .................................................. .................................................. .. This is how they were last yr (2008) http://img242.imageshack.us/img242/1136/p7190001.jpg Not sure what link is which. Thanks. Baz -- Thin the scum out. Bring back hanging. |

Then I think you have a pest problem, probably Capsid Bugs, so you need to get something to deal with them. -- Regards Bob Hobden just W. of London |

If all the leaves are like that I'd burn them and start again, frankly. -- Sacha www.hillhousenursery.com Shrubs & perennials. Tender & exotics. South Devon |

Had been talking with wife about Petunia's and how the rain messes them up,wife has wanted Petunia's in hanging basket for yrs now but I've kept away from them after having some really nice displays messed up with all the rain we get and stick with the normally hardier Fuchsias. Think I may take Sacha's advice and burn infected ones and hope last heathy one will give me some cuttings later on. Thanks again Baz. |
