That looks like it! Bruising. Hmmm. Looks like someone hasn't been very
careful harvesting the potatoes. I've only seen this on shop bought
potatoes, never on my own.

Agreed!! I've just received vouchers for 2 more packs of the potatoes I
complained about. It will be interesting to see if they turn out to have
the same defect.

My experience exactly. As I mentioned the other day, I suspect it's a
consequence of commercial handling.
