afaik - no formal checks were made, unlike for my voluntary hospital work.

Even now - I remain unqualified to work with children, although I am
permitted
to work in the hospital in a general capacity.

This might have been vaguely on topic if the poppy was a real poppy.
Only joking.
Joking aside, IMO everybody who has a conscience should remember why we
are
all still free, and wear that poppy with pride.

In a few years time nobody will remember 11/11. because its not in our
lifetime. Winston and all the lost heroes of 2 world wars will no doubt
be
in the history lessons when we and a couple more generations have
passed.

Well apart from missing an 11, it is the 11th hour of the 11day of the
11th month,
Popy day isn't just about the 2 World wars, it also remembers all
those who have given their lives in all the conflicts that we have
been involved in.
I was glad to see the dancers with their poppies, as with the news
readers, presenters etc wearing them, some a bit early but then it
serves as a reminder to viewers to get theirs.
Just be thankfull that Flanders fields were filled with poppies and
not thistles.
David

I have found these poppies very durable. I bought mine over 5 years ago
,still going strong, so I have not needed to buy another since!

You may not need to buy another but I hope you still contribute to the
cause!

Yes, it could be a nuisance having Goldfinches fluttering around our
lapels.

I think it would be lovely :-)

They have a faintly irritating tweet, but they are very attractive.

Come to think of it, I know women like that...

Lucky beggar, I wish I knew some like that!(:-)

That's excellent! If everyone did that and just made a donation, it
would save the infinitesimal cost of the poppy.

Personally I've found they're not very durable at all, cos my 4 year old
tends to eat them. :-( (fortunately no nasty pin incidents so far!)

Next year seems to me to be a special year, being the 11/11/11 how about
pushing the boat out and donate £11.11 just to make it extra special?

The Royal British Legion is aiming to open a Battle-Back Centre for
Excellence in 2012, which will "provide disabled servicemen with the
challenge of adaptive sport and adventure training in a military context
in the year when Britain hosts the Olympics. The MOD will provide the
professional staff".

The begg...., sorry, polite letter I have received offers me the choice
of £12, £17, £22 donations or "Other". :-)

There is also a form to commit D/Ds up to £80 per month (or other).

I tick the taxpayer box so that they can reclaim the tax which I paid on
the donation, which saves me the bother of hiding my billions in the
Cayman islands like wot Lord Ashcroft and Sir Philip Green do
(allegedly).

Very OT but Tom said that if he didn't want to run a marathon or swim
the channel before he got shot he couldn't see why he would suddenly
want to afterwards

He was once encouraged to think about going mountaineering with the back
Up Trust but said it was more a measure of the fitness of those who were
carrying him that would be tested not him

Next year is the 90th Anniversary of the founding of the RBL. As a
member of the RBL I can assure everyone that
a) We will maintain that remembrance of all who lay down their lives
for their country.
b) Remembrance and the RBL is not just about WW1 & WW2 - don't forget
- Aden, Korea, Falklands, Ireland, Iraq, Kuwait, Afghanistan to name a
few.

Please wear your poppy with pride, and does it matter that a poppy is
pinned on early?

Whilst thinking about 'remembering' please remember those who lost their
lives, 'gave' their lives, in a service they did not always wish to serve
in, and I mean the National Servicemen who failed to complete their time.
395 National servicemen killed in action and about 200 killed in tragic
accidents after WWII.

As a follow-up to the National Servicemen story above, the last three men to
enter the Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force for their National Service,
will be parading and marching past the Cenotaph in London on Sunday. They
will be behind Neil Trotter, Parade Marshal for the NS(RAF) Association and
before a large contingent of men who served their time in the Royal Air
Force.

To start, sort through your children's closest to find any clothesthat they are no longer wearing. You can use these clothes to sell to theresale shop for extra money, or allow your children to swap the clothes fortheir own selections on their own. B [email protected] Lawns 0 22-04-2008 06:52 PM
