Default Hebe Great Orme

Does anyone know where I can get one of these from?

Hebe Great Orme - or is it the wrong time of year?

My dad used to have one but killed it one year and he misses it!

thanks in advance

Not knowing where you are in the UK I suggest you use the RHS Plantfinder to
locate a nursery near you...

http://apps.rhs.org.uk/rhsplantfinder/

Just enter Hebe Great Orme and you will find 28 suppliers throughout the
country.

I asked this about a month ago and no takers then either I'm afraid. I
found several nurseries that said they had it (online) but when actually
pushed to confirm they said they hadn't got it after all! Where have
they all disappeared to I wonder?

I tried about 15 in October and all the ones i contacted either had sold
out or hadn't got that but had got others (not sure how that helped!)

Do you mean, those horrible spreading black spots on leaves? Some of
ours have been plagued with that in recent years. Picking off affected
leaves seems to slow the spread but is a PITA. It's only some varieties;
the hebes with large leaves and large bottlebrush flowers.

Is it at all related to the rose black spot fungus, do you know?
(and hence, treatable* with black spot spray)

* not that I've found it very effective!

When we first moved here, about ten years ago, I 'aquired' a number of
the tender, larger flowered, larger leaved hebes, mostly as cuttings.
Some were very sensitive to fungus disease and died out, but I have
one or two that were barely affected and seemed resistant to it. In
particular a lovely purple-red one that I was pleased to have survive,
and I have it in several places in the garden. It's also very
salt-gale tolerant. It got badly cut back by the cold weather earlier
this year, but it did come through and has grown again well. If you or
Janet would like some cutting material, I can oblige, although it may
be a bit late this year.

I also have a very dark blue-purple one, with purplish leaves,
although smaller flowers than the above. For years it struggled
against fungus, and I moved it from place to place in the garden, even
had it in a pot for a while. Eventually I just shoved it into an empty
spot in a do-or-die attitude, and at last it's started growing as it
should, and even had a couple of flowers this autumn. Perhaps it's at
last developed a resistance. Not big enough for cuttings yet, though.

Don't know the names of either of them I'm afraid.

I would like to try the purple red one next year if you have a surplus. I
do miss having them in the garden

Charlie i have a potted Hebe heartbreaker that was bought in error for
Great Orme (it was under the name GO in a nursery and I never checked
the label on the pot itself!
Anyway if you'd like it I'll post it on to you.
