Most likely Dave has already got a life and he is trying to hang on to it
and his health by avoiding passive smoking.

Could you name someone who as died from passive smoking? Anywhere in
the world will do.

How about Roy Castle a man who died from lung cancer and who never
smoked. Said he picked up the disease from the night clubs he worked in
and where smoking was rampant.

One swallow - even with a famous name - does not a summer make. And even
if it did, there's a very big difference between working all your life in
smoky rooms and having neighbours who smoke outdoors.

Indeed. But did you read the attached URL's?

I suppose you are a strong believer in the tobacco companies assertion
that there is no proven link between tobacco and lung disease?

Of course not. Just that the link between passive smoking and lung disease
is far more difficult to prove.

You seem to think Roy Castle proves it. Despite his death being many years
ago. Where are all the other famous people so afflicted?

If one does you, I had a neighbour who worked in pubs and clubs all his
life, and didn't smoke. He didn't die of cancer or any other smoking
related disease - and at a ripe old age.

One of my brothers in law did not smoke. He was a professional guitar
player. He died from lung cancer in his fifties after playing in
countless smoky places.

He probably had a shit most days; that does not mean it caused his lung cancer.

The overwhelming majority of lung cancer occurs in smokers. The link is
so high it would be foolish to suggest that passive smoking does not
cause a lot more.

I was surprised to note that research links smoking and passive smoking
with hearing loss. So my 45 a day habit might explain why my hearing is
so poor. Hopefully I gave up long enough ago that my risks of lung
cancer and heart disease are receding. Then again I have spent a lot of
time in smoky offices, pubs and clubs so perhaps I had better make my
funeral arrangements.

My wifes hearing is crap she smokes MUCH less than I do.

She used to dance to punk bands though. I stood at the back of rick
bands listening to the sound balance.

Then she adopted headphones plugged into a computer.

Now all she can hear is headphones plugged into a computer. Doesn't hear
a damned thing I say anyway.

There is conclusive evidence to link active smoking with lung cancer.
Passive smoking is however a myth.

Would you perhaps, in your unbiased view, believe what Action on Smoking

My first real job was in the epidemiology department of a major teaching
hospital. The association between smoking and the diseases it causes is
not, as the smokers like to believe, some untested, unproven claim. The
epidemiological link is cast iron solid. As solid as observations that
variola virus causes smallpox.

The tobacco companies have been sponsoring bullshit publication and
"research" since Doll published "Smoking and Carcinoma of the Lung" in
1950. This gives the addicts something to cling to, to bolster their
hope that smoking isn't going to kill them.
