Like it! It's fair enough with a large estate to measure in acreage,
but some are really OTT.

It's been my beef with Gardeners World for a long while.
They seem to have no concept of what a small garden is and that small
gardens are now the norm especially in the South. A small garden is a lot
less than the sq footage of the house sometimes not much bigger than the
living room.

GW persist in talking like the man sitting next to a friend at a lunch who
said "I just have a small arboretum" (a total contradiction unless he had
bonsai), which is what is turning people off. It bares no resemblance to the
reality of most.

Monty talks of planting 5 or 7 of everything because it looks so much
better, true if your garden is a field, but for most of us one is all we
have space for unless you want monoculture.

Last week's edition was particularly bad. Monty cuts the top off a rogue
pink
hollyhock. Monty pushes his wheel barrow, Monty pats his dog. The visit to
the
allotment and Carol Klein were good, but the other 20 minutes of the
programme
weren't worth watching

It would be interesting to know what the average size garden is now.

http://www.myalbum.co.uk/Album=MUKLG34Q

is 120 feet long and 25 feet wide. Divided up into 'gardens', much to the
amusement of one urgler when I refer to 'the gardens'.

120 x 25 includes space for a 20 x 10 garage at the far end, a 10 x 8 shed
and an 8 x 6 greenhouse.

Plenty for the gardener to do and satisfy her.

Stuart when I reply, the cursor is here at the top. I type my lot then
transfer it to the bottom because some people get their knickers in a twist
when someone top posts.

But I can leave it like this if you like, but you just see the wobbly it
presents. ......

I have considerable sympathy for people who have trouble using the
appalling interfaces that are so common nowadays but, in Mike's
case, I doubt that his difficulties in using computers are the
main reason.

I remember when he was quite a reasonable poster, but that was a
long time ago.

Nick Maclaren.

No. Mike uses Windows Live Mail and doesn't know how, or can't be
bothered, to manually trim the .sig (including the '-- ' separator) of
the person to whom he's replying, so his reply is below their unsnipped
..sig.

Better, except your text ("Is this the way?") becomes part of the the
previous message (i.e. "No, Mike uses......."). If I knew anything about
Windows Live Mail, I'd offer advice

It's a bit better!

Unfortunatly, the quoting is all out, so to my newsreader it looks like
you wrote the things that I actually wrote.

And if you manually add a sig separator '-- ' to you signature, just
above your name, that would be even better.

-- put '-- ' he

Before WLM, there was Outlook Express and there was a downloadable
add-in called OE-Quotefix that sorted all these sorts of issues out.

Whether there is a version for WLM, I know not.

I had been putting a manual separator in like that. Is that better?

'Constructive' criticism always welcome.
