Outdoor tomatoes still going strong.
A month or so ago I cut back the outdoor cherry tomatoes to virtually
stems and fruit clusters as the whole thing was getting very unwieldy and it was hard to pick the fruit. The plants have surged back and are as prolific and top heavy as before, and with masses of new flowers which are setting fruit. Set fruit is also still ripening. I assume that it will just keep going until a hard frost gets under the veranda and sees it off, but this could be another month or so. I will have to give it a major haircut again, whatever. Outdoor cucumbers have most of the leaves dying off but there are still some fruit on, including tiny ones developing. Courgettes have given up (but I see ones around which are better cultivated and still going strong). I can recall long autumn days a decade or so back when I managed to grow tomatoes outside until Xmas but looking back they were badly blighted. However the plastic lid over the current ones seems to be protecting them.
