Cuttings do work but the best way I`ve found is to take LOTS!!!

Soft cuttings from this years growth, quick dip of hormone and put
into compost in an old margerine tub. Water until moist and then put
somewhere a little warm.

More you take the more chance you have of some rooting.

I use my clipplings from my bonsai and have had a few grow.

Simply go for the highest amount of cuttings you can and hope for the
best. Nothing to lose as Acers will bud back quickly if they are in
good health.

Just of interest which one is it?
