Default new grass seeds

Hi.
What is the best way to grow grass from seeds.
I just throw it on the lawn and throw light soil over the top.
It dont always sprout?
What is the best way please?

use a fork to break up the surface, sprinkle good seed over the area,
throw some general compost over the top and tread down, water well and
it will grow.

Probably drying out. Raking it in or covering it as you have done is a
good idea, but you really must make sure you keep it moist until the
roots have gone deep enough to withstand the very fast desiccation you
get this time of year.
And it dries fast as well.......

It is absolutely imperative to water the seeds every day until the grass is
matured enough. Usually around 3 weeks.
