Off topic Fridge Freezers
"John Towill" wrote in message I know it is off topic but as there must be loads of freezing (not this weather surely? :-) ) people here I wonder if someone can help. I need a bigger freezer than my present fridge freezer has. As there are only 2 of us we do not require a massive fridge, unfortunately all the machines we can find have bigger fridges than freezers, anyone know of a fridge freezer with a smaller fridge than freezer, or at least the same size? Can't help with the fridge/freezer thing directly but I can recommend Liebherr fridges and freezers, superb quality, most efficient ratings possible, (and they make the fridges and freezers that are sold under the Miele name too). Take a look at their huge range... www.lhg.liebherr.com/us/default.asp We have had two of their most efficient 6ft tall freezers for a number of years and have nothing but praise for them. Not expensive either considering the quality, but you will probably have to search them out amongst the specialist suppliers like Molesey Refrigeration. -- Bob www.pooleygreengrowers.org.uk/ about an Allotment site in Runnymede fighting for it's existence. |

"Edwin wrote in message ... For the price of a big Liebherr FF (over £800) you could get two Bosch ones of about the same size. I have no affiliation with Bosch, but this sounds like diminishing returns. All I can say is when we looked we found they were about the same price but comparing them side by side the Liebherr had better features and better quality and they also had the best energy rating possible. Miele quality for Bosch prices. -- Bob www.pooleygreengrowers.org.uk/ about an Allotment site in Runnymede fighting for it's existence. |

I keep it in the conservatory and grow pot plants on top of it. switching it off when the temperatures get higher than their recommended operating levels (30C) and transferring all remaining food to the kitchen FF. It goes on again at the start of September. Oh it's an Electrolux 4-drawer - had proportionately more space inside for the price than others on the market, and has a good efficiency rating. I also see its location as a way of using the heat produced as a conservatory heater in winter! -- jane Don't part with your illusions. writes I'm also in the FF market, 'cos I need to preserve my rhubarb harvest. I'm considering one of the big Hotpoint Mistrals (e.g. FFA90) or a Bosch KGU32123. These are both frost-free. The Bosch feels much sturdier, but the Hotpoint is a bit bigger (on paper). We've had a lot of trouble with Frost Free Freezers. Basically what they do is switch themselves off every so often, and blow air through the condenser to remove any frost. Our service man (who hasn't charged us a penny yet) says they still need defrosting every year as the channels get frozen up and then the auto-defrost doesn't work. He tried to get us a new defrost timer, its basically a clock which goes round and switches the defrost element on every hour. He suggested if we got desperate we could bring the wiring out to a box on the wall and buy a cheap timer from a d-i-y shed. John -- John Rouse |

Have had our Hotpoint FF72 (I think ... couldn't be bothered going to check) for three years plus, and it does exactly what it says on the tin. Meanwhile, our other Hotpoint, a bog-standard larder fridge, produces ice floes the size of Wales on a regular basis, which must be good news for worried ecologists... Jo |
