Default Rosemary looking ill

Hello,

one by one the twigs (correct name?) of my potted rosemary are loosing their
strong green colour and turning pale. I cut out the first of these some
weeks ago and discovered this morning that there are four more. The
remaining twigs look very healthy, but I fear they will turn out similar.

Does anyone know what the cause might be and how to stop it?

Thanks.

Best Regards

Gordon Filby

PS I'm resident in Karlsruhe, SW Germany. It has been very hot (30- 35C)
here over recent weeks. The plant is in a shady position (gets filtered
late evening sun) but on the corner of the house where there might be some
turbulence. It has been kept well watered.

Could be lack of water, or it could need feeding. How big is the pot,
Rosemary will grow into quite a large shrub so it could just need
repotting.

Overwatering is the most likely culprit, but having it in the
shade is no help.

Rosemary is a true mediterranean plant and thrives in conditions
of brilliant sun and fairly dry, lean soil. Note that some
cultivars and forms are hardier than others.

As an emergency therapy, I suggest you take the entire plant,
rootball and all, out of the pot and place it on a newspaper for
a day to let the soil and roots dry out somewhat. Then replace in
the pot and move into a sunnier position. But don't overdo the
sun until the plant returns to health: it is an invalid.

Don't feed it while it is ailing. At this season, rosemary should
be ripening the new growth it formed earlier in the year.

Rosemary can be tricky sometimes. There is a fungus that rips through it
very quickly. You should be able to see faint white wool in the leaf
axils on dying stems.

I'm not sure, but over watering might be implicated in allowing the
fungi to take hold. Usually its a problem coming out of wet winters. I
have never found anything effective against dying rosemary apart from
pruning out all diseased wood with a huge safety margin and burning it.

Hallo,

thaks to all who replied. The LCD seems to be that I have probably overfed
and overwatered it and not allowed enough sun.

I think the drying out and excision technique is the way I'll go.

Thanks again.
