Flowering redcurrant?
"........But is it the same as a 'flowering currant' - the one with hanging
clusters of pink flowers?......." Or red or white I must have heard what I wanted on the prog as I thought they said red flowering currant . but then it is something we often do....to end their sentences before they do.......Guilty. -- David Hill Abacus nurseries www.abacus-nurseries.co.uk |

Did they mean what we always used to call "flowering currant"? I don't recall hearing about a flowering redcurrant before and since they were talking about a decorative bush, flowering at this time of year, it obviously wasn't the redcurrant which of course does have flowers but not showy ones. Mary Almost certainly Ribes. -- We used to have one outside our front door a few years ago. Smelt of cat pee when you touched it. That's why it's not there now. But is it the same as a 'flowering currant' - the one with hanging clusters of pink flowers? That's what I think they meant, but I didn't see the programme. Steve |

I was going to note the name down until Bob (t'was Bob, wasn't it?) I think so. said the berries weren't edible. Perhaps I should listen again but I've been fighting my website and I need to go to bed. Most new stuff here will have to be either edible or edible and decorative as an incidental bonus. Lack of room. Same here. Rocketing house-prices and this house at an attractive price made waiting a dodgy prospect. It's amazing what you can get used to. Except editing websites :-((((((((((( Mary -- Rusty Open the creaking gate to make a horrid.squeak, then lower the foobar. http://www.users.zetnet.co.uk/hi-fi/ |

Sorry, I should have been more specific. The flowering currant flowering now is Ribes sanguineum. I'm not clear as to why there was confusion originally as the fruiting currant isn't doing anything at present but looking like a bundle of sticks. ;-) I think whoever said 'flowering redcurrant' on GQT made a simple tip of the slongue. -- Sacha (remove the weeds to email me) |
