Moles: How can I legally kill 'em.

I have a curious book at home called ( I think ) Gardening Gurus and
Grubs - it's a collection of articles highlighting important
developments in gardening ( the gutta percha hosepipe, the
wheelbarrow, the Flymo etc ), and there's an article about
molecatchers.

It says that what they used to do was dig into the mole run and place
a pot beneath the run, then place a board atop the hole. The mole
falls into the pot and can't climb out - and can thus be captured.

It doesn't say what you do with the mole afterwards, though I would
suggest taking it a suitable distance and setting it free.

I might have to consider this option myself - I found a molehill
adjacent to my veg plot last week - looks like the moles have finally
made it into my garden after ten years of keeping a respectable
distance.

Ordinarily I wouldn't worry, the rest of the garden is pretty much a,
ahem, wildlife garden anyway - but the veg plot is another matter...I
need me worms!

I should be very surprised indeed if the Queen, in person, has
acquired a poisons-licence for mole-killing by strychnine. No doubt she
employs a molecatcher who has such a licence for use in country estates,
golfcourses etc. AFAIK the use of strychnine-baits by licensed persons
is no longer permitted in domestic gardens in case ignorant dogs or very
hungry children attempt to eat the worms, or dead moles, so if you
employ a mole catcher he'll use traps.

acquired a poisons-licence for mole-killing by strychnine. No doubt she
employs a molecatcher who has such a licence for use in country estates,

Moles!! Boy oh boy have we had fun with them!! Became world war two with spooky and the moles last summer - they had their own trenches it got so bad!!
We tried every possible legal method known to man and mole, and the one that worked for us was recommended by a lady farmer. She told us to find the moles most frequently used runs, and push branches of gorse/holly into the run.
I can honestly say that it WORKED!! (they now happily reside in our neighbours garden, who now have the battery operated mole chasers scattered all over their lawn, instead of us!)
It doesn't kill or maim them, and won't destroy or poison your earth or lawn.

Why do you *need* to?
I would be seriously worried about the health of my soil if moles weren't making a decent living. OK, they're a
pain in fine turf but otherwise I'm prepared to live with them. I would also be prepared to live without the fine
turf if the boss would let me do something more interesting with it.
