Default Outdoor aeolian harp (OT?)

I apologise if this is off topic as it isn`t about plants but there doesn`t
seem to be a NG specifically for garden accessories/ornaments.

I have been trying to find a UK supplier of aeolian harps specifically
designed for outdoor use. I do not care for the jangling of wind chimes and
thought the (hopefully) mellow thrumming of a wind harp would be pleasant
and soothing, and also detract from traffic noise. I have searched the `net
but could only find US suppliers, and most were windowsill harps anyway.
Nor have I had any success in tracking down a book which gives instructions
on how to make one. Does anyone know where I might get such a thing in the
UK, please?

Kate

Why don't you do a google search for Æolian harp using UK pages?

Thanks for the responses.

I had already done a UK search, using google and ask, but most of the hits
were about poetry or music, rather than making/buying a wind harp. I had
also found Art Robb`s webpage, but the design there is for a windowsill
harp, although I haven`t followed up all the links yet. There is one
website that specialises in outdoor windharps, but I am afraid to contact
the manufacturers as, although the harps are large, beautiful,
sculpture-like objects, they also look prohibitively expensive! I have even
searched for books but, again, all the titles I found were about poetry or
music. Ah well, I shall just have to keep searching.

Thanks again
Kate

Amazon.com list a book called "The design and construction of an Aeolian
harp" by Jonathan Mansfield and also "The history and organology of the
Aeolian harp" by Stephen Bonner. Sadly they're both out of print, but it
might be worth searching 2nd-hand book sites like Alibris or abebooks
for them.

Thank you to "Dave" and "Pearson" for the extra tips. Shame about the
Mansfield book being out of print, although, from previous experience, I
suspect that the plans would be for a windowsill harp. However, I may be
able to order it from the library. Just for info, a windowsill wind harp is
designed so that the wind blows over the strings; it has bridges and a
sound box, as well as an open-sided lid to channel the wind. Apparently
they are meant to fit in a sash window so that by closing the window down on
to the lid, any wind has to blow across the strings. An outdoor one is
designed so that the wind blows through the strings, it seems, and shouldn`t
be quite so complicated. Maybe I shall try to design and construct one
myself....
