Ideas for 'Persian carpet' coloured plants
Having lost two largish conifers (cuttings grown massive) and my wild cherry tree in the front garden (near death and dangerous so chopped) I have much more light. I have a round 30 foot unshaded bed in the centre with a JC Van Toll and an escallonia plus several eunonymus(s/ae). Space for herbaceous now and I want to have a sort of Persian carpet theme, sort of plum/purple/red/blue/pink etc. Got one or two special plants already but would like ideas for varieties of perennials or shrubs that might fit the colour theme. Have Lithrum virgatum and Echinacea 'Rocky Top hybrids' and several really dark pink Diascia, also Viburnum Bondantense. Was thinking of a Calycanthus for the colour and wonderful smell. Hanging about in the back I have some Heuchera etc to put in. Soil is flint with some clay, fairly protected by surrounding 7 foot high hawthorn hedges Janet -- Janet Tweedy Dalmatian Telegraph http://www.lancedal.demon.co.uk |

Also consider Hedysarum coronarium, see http://digilander.libero.it/ ugo38/altsavi2/pag10.htm (In the UK, the flowering is longer and later) Chiltern Seeds sell the seeds Steve Harris - Cheltenham - Real address steve AT netservs DOT com A useful bit of gardening software at http://www.netservs.com/garden/ |
