Slightly OT - identify insect
I wondered if anyone could help me identify an insect I found in my garden.
It was bright red, like lily beetle but looked like a strawberry on legs, it had very definite dimples all over it's body and was very tiny, about 7mm maximum. Does anyone know what it is? Clare |

The only thing I can find which matches your description is a sap beetle, but I think they only live in America, there's a picture he http://www.uidaho.edu/so-id/entomolo...p%20beetle.jpg Are you sure it wasn't a ladybird? -- "Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. Clare There is a key here http://www.ex.ac.uk/bugclub/bugid.html, but you do need to know some key entymological terminology, but www.chambers.co.uk may be able to assist there. You may be able to identify the order here http://www.kendall-bioresearch.co.uk/key1.htm Both these links were found by Googling. -- In memory of MS MVP Alex Nichol: http://www.dts-l.org/ |

I browsed through the beetle gallery link and couldn't find the one that seems to be common in my garden. It has a broad, flat bright green body and long red legs.. about half to three quarters of an inch long. I find them all over and don't know whether I should be squishing them or not. Any help appreciated. Ta Laury |
