plant a border or a raised bed in front of it? Or am i best not to plant anything,i was thinking of putting a gravel path so far along, next to the hedge.......with prehaps a bench, then it would be easier to trim the hedge, won`t it? thanks for any feedback, neil. |

Whatever you do, you must certainly consider hedge maintenance. Have you got enough room to lay a maintenance path (with bench, if desired), and then plant a border in front of that? This will allow you to maintain the back of the border, as well as the hedge. If you need to, you can underplant a hedge. However, hedges are greedy plants, and the soil underneath is often rooty, so you will need to take this into consideration. For a narrow border, look at hedgerows. |If you want a deep border, look at some grand herbaceous borders in public gardens. These will give you some ideas. With the latter, you may even be able to talk to the gardener and get some advice. Spider |
