Default [IBC] Fw: Outlook Express Crashes

Please excuse this somewhat out-of-order post to the mail list. I've had several friends lose email they were drafting with repeated Outlook Express crashes. I've lost drafts, too. A friend with XP Consultant skills (some will know Mark Hill) cured the
problem for me and others. Those Outlook Express users without institutional support will have difficulty locating the fix themselves-- at least, I did.

Best wishes,

from Mark:
Pass this along to anyone you know who's experiencing similar Outlook Express crashes.

The problem with Outlook Express crashing when creating an email message is associated with the recently released Service Pack of Internet Explorer 6.0. Unfortunately this Service Pack overwrote an important file which causes Outlook Express to crash unexp
ectedly.

This fix will repair crashing issues with Outlook Express on systems where Internet Explorer 6.0 Service Pack 1 has been installed.

To determine if your system has Internet Explorer 6.0 Service Pack 1 installed, load Internet Explorer, go to Help/About Internet Explorer, and part way down the Help box you should find the version number of your Internet Explorer as "Version: 6.0.xxxx.x"
(where xxxx.xx are your particular build number) and the Service Pack is noted as "Update Version:; SP1;"

The following patch has recently been released by Microsoft which installs a new piece of software which repairs this issue.

For the technically inclined, click here to read the technical issues associated with this problem.

Click here to install the patch then choose "Open" at the File Download prompt.

Once installed, you may have to re-boot your computer for the fix to take effect.

Hope this helps others.
