magazine and trying to decide to buy it! Why don't you subscribe to the
magazine instead of counting on getting it at the local store if they aren't
sold out.? Of course, if so, you will have to put up with that inferior
issue sometimes.
There are several reasons why magazines ( of any kind) have a tough go once
in a while. Advertising subscriptions ( and BT certainly charges well for
that!) and subscription drops. You could really help out BT and possibly
help it improve it's content by actually supporting it with a subscription.
Another real "magazine killer" is the group ( sounds like your club here)
that buys a magazine or gets a subscription then passes it around for
everyone to read! i fear this is also a problem with books!
I liked "Bonsai Europe" so well that for the second year now I asked members
of the local club if they wanted to get in on a group order. I had several
takers. They get it "brought to them by me" at meetings and get it overall
cheaper than buying it singularly by themselves. The only small
hassle....getting everyones money after they order it, but, that's a slight
problem and the magazine is soooo good.

No. We don't subscribe as a club. I don't think ANYone in our
club subscribes any more. Most take BCI's "Bonsai" and of course
we all get the Fla. Bonsai Journal. Some get ABS. I think I'm
the only one that gets International Bonsai, but I may be wrong.
One of the members subscribes to 2 or 3 Japanese bonsai
magazines.

Personally, I'm down to 2 bonsai magazine subscriptions now . . .
BCI's and International Bonsai. That's enough, with the
occasional purchase of BT when they deal with a tree that I like.

Sorry about hacking your post down so much but I agree! Bonsai Europe is one of the best bonsai magazines around! I have been picking it up, one copy at a time, at New England Bonsai Garden. I decided not to subscribe and pick up just the issues I liked
and I have picked up everyone they have put out since! I guess I should subscribe! My main reason for liking it so much is that they actually work on trees that are attainable to my budget.

Several people suggested Bonsai Europe. I haven't seen it in this country,

they want $10 for a sample copy.

A major part of the expense is shipping. I get several issues for our
lub( no extras) and shipping is a big chunk of it.
I believe Jim Gillespie, Sho Fu En bonsai ( in Pa.) sells them retail. If
you contact him You could probably get him to bring you some copies to
Rochester this Fall so you can check them out. He is a regular there and has
a full business but doesn't do shows.
Also, Ed Meehan carried them in the past.
