jujube seeds
Has anyone cracked open jujube seeds in order to sprout the embryo?
All the ones I've opened are hollow. Is a hollow seed a viable seed? I expected the embryo to fill the cavity like other seeds. |

I germinated many of them. Just last month I cut down the last two jujube trees. They are rapid growers. |

My jujube berries, a few hundreds a year, get close to turning color before first frost. I have several little trees nearby, but the germination fraction has to be a few percent only. If that is the case, you plant the shrub for its looks (summer or winter, not a bad specimen), because the berries will not make it. |

Thanks for the info. I found all jujube seeds were hollow from three
sources - fresh, and dried from the food market and from a seed company. I have another problem - trying to sprout some guavas. Of five that sprouted two are growing but very slowly, at least above ground (below ground seems to be more vigorous). But three sprouted little leafless stems less than 1/2 inch and just sit there, week after week, with no change whatsoever. Any special conditions for sprouting guavas? |
