5300k,6400k,10000k???
This is not a reply on the topic, but on the topic of lighting the Hagen
Aqua Glo tubes say 18000K but they look more in the red range of the spectrum. Can anyone clarify this for me. Also I've got a 6500K tube running on the same ballast which gives a sunlight type look to the tank, is this a good combo for the plants? "350X_Rider" wrote in message rthlink.net... I got a AHSupply light kit, made a hood, looks great... so great that I'm deciding to play with the lighting...... the colors persay.... the 5300k 55w that I have is pretty "yellow-white" and I'm looking for some ideas on whether a 6400, or a 10k light would be more yellow or more white, or just too much... or could a Dark Blue bulb be good or ok or indifferent... obviously, i'm new to lights, and the "concept" behind them, but I'm open and eager to learn... -- 350X_Rider ------------------------- 1992 TRX-350 XX '98 Tacoma Ext Cab 4X4 Lifted.... 5300k,6400k,10000k???
I think people gives more importance than they should to the temperature ...
the way I see it: if the CRI is higher than 75 then the temperature of the colour mean something useful, if not then it's not useful. one lamp might be on the 20000 kelvin, but with only a great spike in the blue, and another not so great but still big on the red. where is the green, yellow ? My question would be which lamp is best for the PLANTS. The plants are
really the picture you are trying to show... so what will give them the best growth and brightest colors. That is what I want to know.. Da'Fishboy "António Vitor" wrote in message ... My question would be which lamp is best for the PLANTS. The plants are
really the picture you are trying to show... so what will give them the best growth and brightest colors. Please yourself. Intensity matters more than color. As long as there's enough light, what color it is isn't critical. Most people prefer the 6400K, but lots of people use 5300K and 10000K, too. Whatever looks best to you will be fine. 5300k,6400k,10000k???
I have a 5000K and a 6500K bulb, and the 6500K is 'whiter' than the
5000K (which has more of a yellowish cast). What 'color' is a 10000K bulb (or 9600K)? Many TIA! pete LeighMo wrote: My question would be which lamp is best for the PLANTS. Generally speaking, the higher the number, the cooler (bluer) the light looks. 10000K is a very "white" looking light. Some people like that cool, super-bright look, but others complain that it makes reds look pale and washed-out. Leigh http://www.fortunecity.com/lavender/halloween/881/ |

Many thanks for the reply -
Forgot to mention that I also have a Coralife Actinic bulb that came with the (used) hood I bought a couple years ago. It's labeled as 7100K (FR40-T12-360-BP), and it was *BLUE*. I don't use it any more because it was almost like having a blacklite in the tank - very intense blue cast. Is a 10000K bulb going to be even 'bluer' than the actinic, or is the actinic a special kind of bulb that is just super blue in color? The 6500K bulb (nice and white)I have now is nowhere even a tiny bit close to the color of the 7100K actinic (BLUE), which is why I wonder if the 'actinic' is a special kind of bulb whose to-the-human-eye color doesn't match to the kelvin temp scale the way one would expect... Just showing my ignorance here ... pete LeighMo wrote: I have a 5000K and a 6500K bulb, and the 6500K is 'whiter' than the 5000K (which has more of a yellowish cast).
