I know this is grown in gardens in some parts of the world, but here in Australia, it is a much detested, obnoxious weed. Still it does have a pretty flower. :-) |

How are you achieving the black background? Mostly by selecting a flower that had a lot of dark foliage behind it, then using a wide open lens (f5.6) and the fastest shutter speed I could, without everything being too dark (I was using a 400m lens). Also a little curves adjustment in PSP |

They did produce a hybrid that was suppose to be sterile, however it was found that if grown near "wild" lantana it did reproduce. We have removed so much of it from our land, in the past 2 years, it's been a major job, as it was entwined in trees and in same cases had killed small trees. I think we have now totally eradicated it from our place, but there is still an awful lot of it on council land, the other side of our fence. On day we will tackle it. |

A noxious weed at that. In our climate it goes totally wild, takes over acres and acres of land and eventually nothing else will grow there. It's hard to eradicate and (as my arms show) it becomes very prickly and the cuts can be come infected. No way ... they're gorgeous ... I feed them every few weeks, have LOTS of flowers, & the hummingbirds LOVE them! As do the bees Yes, but here the birds pass the seeds on to another area and more of the freaking stuff grows and kills more native vegetation. |

Lantana fortunately isn't hardy here, in fact I know a couple who have a lavender-coloured form of it that they protect with a temporary greenhouse every winter and heating in cold weather! -- Sue ] |
