Default Hot peppers question

I've forgotten what type of hot peppers I bought. insert flogging here
Does it make a difference when I pick them? If they are supposed to turn
red are they any less hot when they are still green?

color doesn't effect the heat, in my book. but picking time would depend on
the type.......and the size........

do you have peppers yet? if so, what do they look like? i could tell you
more based upon description.

Yep, I have two so far. They are ping pong ball size and bell-pepper
green. They have a bit of a tip to them but it is rounded, not pointy
sharp. All I remember is that they are supposed to be REALLY hot. I don't
think they are jalapeno tho'.

They are supposed to be hottest at maturity. If they are green, try the
heat, if too hot lose the seeds. If they are red and too hot, lose the
seeds. If they are round, with a pointy tip and orange, buckle up. One
quarter to one half as you go. Don't eat too many as you will hate
yourself in the morning.

well, that sounds like it rules out tabasco, banana, and cayenne. habanero
maybe? they are suppose to hotter than jalapeno. or possibly the famous
"peter pepper" - but don't think it would be those, they are short and
rounded, but get to be about 2-3 inches long. are you sure they were hot
peppers, and not bell peppers?? lol

There are a *really* large number of hot pepper varieties (especially
someplace like a farmer's market or seed catalog).

We're growing about 5 or 10 this year. And only one or two (if that)
are the well-known ones like those mentioned above.

I finally located some paperwork on the one I have. It's called, "Cherry
Bomb". Apparently it IS supposed to get red and is "mildly hot" whatever
that means.

Cherry peppers? I've seen two different type of ping pong ball shape and
size peppers at the store, one called Cherry pepper, and the other I don't
recall the name ATM.

Peppers also get sweeter as they mature. Don't almost all peppers turn
red/yellow/purple as they mature?
