Default Do you compost?

At any rate, the question you asked was a broad one which can easily be
answered by just a little googling.

Googling got me more than I wanted to know about composting. Hence, the
next logical thing, ................. "Do you compost?"

No how to, just do you do it, and how well does it work for you.

Simple, really.

You ask a simple question to complex people, accept their advice or not,
but they were of the good disposition to take the time to grace you with
a response. If it is a question of 'tude, then you will find these
gracious folks can become hard as nails, if dissed. You will reap what
you sow. Good luck.

True, but being advised to "google", go to a library, or look it up in
the group archives pretty much kills the conversation for one looking for
personal insight.
Except for the arguing part........

If you invest ten seconds to seach this group for composting you
will find a recent thread that covered most if not everything you need
to know.

And if you search back to a thread I started "Leaf Mold, Do Tell.."
you'll find fascinating info on cold composting of leaves as well as a
spin off conversation that's even MORE fascinating about compost teas.

At any rate, the question you asked was a broad one which can easily be

You're not addressing the correct person.

I was continuing your statement with another good thread example which
was very recent.

Again on this note you asked much more, which was;
Does it work? How much work is it? How often are you supposed to

turn it?
Do you keep it wet? Do you get enough compost to justify the work?

I think that's the whole point.. It's a pile of questions that most can
be answered with a little web browsing. Personally I check several sites
and gain info that way before I ask the group as I don't want to waste
their time writing how-tos on things that are covered everywhere.

Now, take conflicting information however such as to wet the pile. Say
some place says to wet it and some other says nothing of it.. Then I'd
end up coming in and asking the group.

For what ever reason you keep shortening your question however, mayhaps
in an attempt to make it seem that you did not originally ask so much.
Really no clue, but whatever.

As for the answer to your short question.. Yes I do, and sure does.

If I may, I think Billy said it best in another reply when they said
"You will reap what you sow". There's no point in coming back with such
volatile replies.

At any rate, I digress, as this thread has turned into quite the fracas.
However, I will agree that the canned spam reply to google or goto the
library that many people are doing now is growing old.. Almost as bad as
some replies to tree questions.. Almost..

Ok, enough rambling.. Compost, it's useful.. Toss in grass clippings and
leaves in layers and be done with it. Have fun..

I consider this and other topical groups to be DISCUSSION groups. Not dry
how to lectures, or dissertations by the overly educated.

I come here to talk to people. Get a little information here and a little
there. And to hear each person's individual experience and assessment.

Web browsing is important, too. And I do that on a regular basis. I have
just found that it is so slanted that it is almost unbelievable. Example:
I have googled for reviews of particular electronics devices that I KNOW
are popular, and there are no reviews available. Either it's a bad
product, and they don't post reviews, or there's no one actually doing the
reviews and reporting them. Or there's just a couple of reviews, and they
are so long and glowing that I suspect they were made up by someone in the
marketing department.

Internet is just like the news. You can take what comes down the pipe and
swallow it, or you can ask questions of people who've been there, done it,
for a slightly more informative answer. I don't consider, "Look it up in
Google, you lazy bum" to be an answer. At least not in a real time
conversation.

And to those who consider us who don't know everything (as they do) to be
a bother, there's always filters.

something slanted, please come here and warn us about it.

Just my opinion, but you're asking people to write a book for you,
instead of going to the library to GET a book first, and then asking
questions about what you've read.

I'm sorry. I must have missed the meeting where you were put in
charge.

FYI, I downloaded about ten pages on composting from Google. My
question was, "How does it work for YOU"? I'm sorry that you missed
the questions in my post and chose to comment on something else. Do
you have any comments on composting that you would like to share with
the group?

Steve

Actually, you asked "Does it work?". Of course it works.

Thank you. For future questions, what's the procedure? Do I e mail
you first and have you okay it. Or rewrite it? Then do you post it to
the newsgroup, or do I? I want soooooooo much to get it right.

Steve

You did it exactly right. Don't assume that my reaction will be anything
like those from other people. Wait and see. And, my reaction comes from
having teachers and parents who expected me to be resourceful. Others
may not have come from this kind of background.

I do have a question, though: How far is your public library?

From here, about 22 miles. But, I googled composting, and got lots of
information. I don't always believe what I read in google, and one gets
hits that make you wonder how in the world you get there from a simple
keyword. I just wanted to know some real live opinions rather than
someone who has a website with Adsense ads all over it, or someone who
wrote a book and is profiting somehow.

Steve

Limit the search to domains ending with .edu and that should cure your
fears. If you read info from ag schools and still have doubts, then other
issues are at work here.

The time that it has taken smartass to tell you all the noninformative

etc...he should have googled for something more interesting to do with his

Been there, done it. Did it a few weeks ago. Now, I wanted to hear from

If we all just used Google, we could dispose of newsgroups entirely.

If teachers spoon fed your kids or grandkids instead of teaching them how to
