Okay, this plant was growing right with my Spirea. Pulled it out and

moved
it, keeping it separate for now until I see what it is.

Anyone have a guess at this?

The leaves look like Rue (Ruta graveolens), but not the stems. Hmmm.

Strong,
odd scent when you pulverize a bit of leaf between your fingers?

No, the scent doesn't match your description. How about Erodium as per

Ann?

I'm not familiar with Erodium, Ian. I'll browse some of my books this
evening, though.

Looks to me to be a form of Cranesbill (Wild geranium)

Herb Robert - Geranium robertianum

The leaves look similar, but from the pics I found online, mine seems much
lighter than the Herb Robert.

Photo colors can be deceiving. As many of the buggers as I have pulled over
the years, that is definitely Herb Robert or as another indicated, wild
(weedy?) geranium. If you have any doubt, leave it be for a few more days and
it should develop small pink flowers. Or take a whiff of the roots and stems -
very distinct aroma.
