Porch ceiling bug problems
We have a covered porch and deck with a silver blue white ceiling that
is being ruined by insects! We don't turn on any lights at night to try and keep from drawing them, but still are plagued with bug spots, spiders trying to catch the bugs. In the daytime the ceiling is covered with mosquitoes then at night some get in the house every time the door opens! Do we have to spray poison all over the ceiling to eliminate them? My mom said to spray a broom with poison and "sweep" the ceiling with it, but I wonder how often I'll have to do this and what poison to use. Suggestions, please? |

Would installing a ceiling fan work? I remember my Dad had one on his porch
in Florida. He said it kept the flies busy. But he could have been pulling my leg. ; ) -- Jam (remove the "m" ) "mypet" wrote in message m... Porch ceiling bug problems
No standing water, we live in a rather wooded area but we're on the
side of a hill and the birdbath gets emptied regularly along with any flowerpot saucers that need it. I have asked around and no similar problems are being reported. The only difference I see is that the ceiling over the back deck is flat and as you get closer to the house it forms a kind of a "well" or trough that's about 2 feet higher than the rest of the ceiling. I'm wondering if they like that protected no drafts area? That being said, what can I spray these suckers with? ;-) Are your neighbors' porches similarly plagued? They would probably be the ones to ask for advice/experience. I was going to recommend attracting spiders, but I see those are part of your problem. As for mosquitoes, is there standing water around for them to breed in? |

If you go the insecticide route cypermethrin would probably be the strongest repellant to spray on the areas they seem to gather. Micro-encapsulated formulation of any general insecticide would be the next longest residual. -- Lar. (to e-mail, get rid of the BUGS!! |

Vacumn ceiling regularly. Change type of paint and/or light color to dark siding material. Screen in the porch. Zebrin Lar wrote in message et...
