Is this a fast growing tree? I planted a 4-5 foot tree last year and have at
least 8 inches of new growth this year.

I would call it medium growing. A nice little shrubby tree, IMHO.

Mine started as a whip about two feet tall and it is now about 15 feet tall with
a nice canopy and it's about 4 years old. I think it is a nice grower if
watered properly. Considered to be a small tree, which will max out at 25 feet
in about ten years.
