Can someone suggest a something to plant at the edge of a water garden that

Not really a "trailing" plant, but I've seen various kinds of ferns
used effectively along the edges of ponds, they may have been in pots
that were turned or they could have been planted in the ground...if
you're using a pond liner you have to watch out digging around the
edges as the liner is usually just under the soil.. and usually rocks
are placed to weight the liner as well as hide it and flat rocks
usually are placed to stick out over the water a bit also to shade the
liner as well as make it more difficult for animals to get right to
the water's edge and "fish" . Also don't want to plant things which
will have roots strong enough to poke through the liner. Definitely
not a rhizomatous grass with their needle sharp growing tips.
