Has anyone used a professional lawn service (chem lawn, etc..)? Are
they worth the cost? If so, would anyone recommend a particularly
company? Do lawn services actually test your lawn to see what nutrients
it needs, or do they just put down whatever is the general need for the
region?

I have tried sending soil samples to NCSU horticulture extension is a
great service. But despite knowing what my lawn needs, I still haven't
had much luck growing grass. We are edging closer to a possible move,
and I would like our lawn to look decent to help sell the house. I'm
ready to pay someone to help us out.

For what it's worth, one of our neighbors uses EPM, and his lawn is
unquestionably the best-looking in the neighborhood.

If you are going to put your house on the market before late october you
may be in trouble unless you put out sod and water the heck out of it.

Fall is the best time for fescue to establish. July, Aug, and early
Sept are rough.

"Curb appeal" is often important, but the general look of the lawns in your
neighborhood matters also.

What I mean is, here in my older neighborhood in Wake County, no two lawns
look the same! A good lawn stands out, but some people don't even have
grass at all, just azaleas & mulch (there are lots of trees here).

On the other hand, if all the lawns in your neighborhood are identical, you
probably don't want yours to stick out! So, a lawn service would be
beneficial in that case.

Sorry, I don't have any specific recommendations, as I have never used a
lawn service. (I may try one, though, if they don't laugh when I say, "I
have two dogs who live to fetch tennis balls, but they can tear up turf in
no time. Is there any hope for me?")
