Orchids of New Guinea
Orchids of New Guinea Vol I
Dendrobium is horticulturally the most significant orchid genus of New Guinea. Together with the three closely related genera Cadetia, Diplocaulobium, and Flickingeria it is the subject of this CD-ROM, which was written and compiled by Mr. André Schuiteman and Dr. Ed de Vogel of the Nationaal Herbarium Nederland, Leiden branch (formerly known as the Rijksherbarium), in co-operation with the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, and the Royal Botanic Garden, Edinburgh. Read more on this CD ROM Orchids of New Guinea Vol II the second volume in a planned series, which will eventually cover all the orchid genera and species of New Guinea, and, ultimately, all Southeast Asia. Treating one of the most attractive of all orchid groups, with superb pictures supplied by dozens of first rate photographers, this CD-ROM should be in the collection of every amateur interested in these plants. Read more on this CD ROM Orchids of New Guinea. Vol. III This CD-ROM reflects the state of the art in our expertise of another portion of the incredibly rich orchid flora of New Guinea. It contains more than 2000 images, 643 distribution maps, 60 generic descriptions, and full treatments of 673 species and varieties belonging to the orchid genera Acanthephippium to Hymenorchis. Read more on this CD ROM Orchids of New Guinea. Vol. IV This CD-ROM treats 19 genera (Kuhlhasseltia to Ophioglossella) with nearly 400 species. Among the major genera are Liparis, Malaxis, Mediocalcar, Oberonia, and Octarrhena. For every species a full description is given, with data on distribution (including maps in full colour), synonymy, cultivation, ecology, typification, classification, references, etc. Read more on this CD ROM Other CD ROMs from around the world available here main site: http://www.etiis.org.uk |

Orchids of New Guinea
I have two of the Orchids of New Guinea CD-ROMs and they are really stellar.
Only complaint I had, and I was told this has improved in the later CDs, is the images are teeee-tiny on my modern 19" LCD. An excellent resource, especially for those of you in Europe - that price is really good. Not so good for us over here, though. =( -Eric in SF www.orchidphotos.org |

Thank you for your endorsement and your comments Eric, I will pass them on
to the authors, the dollar/pound conversion is unfortunate but worth it. Regards Rob http://www.etiis.org.uk The first stop for biodiversity multimedia "Eric Hunt" wrote in message ... I just ordered a book from Britain; it was painful to watch the conversion calculation. However, when my daughter comes over from London, she gets great buys on stuff here. The dollar is at 1.36/ Euro, too, not good news for our school's semester abroad program in Austria. J. Del Col |

Orchids of New Guinea
Hey what are you guys complaining about. The Australian Dollar is currently
trading at $AUD 1 = $USD 0.083. So if you think it is expensive for you guys to buy books/CDs priced in Euros or for travelling to Europe spare a thought for people in countries such as Canada, Australia, New Zealand, etc whose currency is below parity with the $USD. No more complaining please! But the upside is, travel to Australia and New Zealand is affordable for you guys. Cheers John "jadel" wrote in message ups.com...
