Just a thought, what about a mock student judging class session.
Have some members bring in plants & have a resident judge tell all! It could be staggered over several meetings as there is probably a ton of info. Cheers Wendy (Who has only been to one society meeting in her life)! The speakers are the simple part, since we have many wonderful growers in the area. Anyone have unique ideas for society meetings? I found a couple of Kathy's, and I'm definitely going to try them. Repotting, semi-hydro, mounting, etc, are all pretty much worn thin. And to get the ball rolling, I'll share a format that I occasionally use, with great success. I break the attendees into smaller groups (one time I handed out cards with pictures of 4 different orchids and the attendees had to find the members of their group without talking - funny), and put someone experienced in charge of each, doing whatever demonstration I've planned. All input greatly appreciated! Diana |

Good idea, Wendy. I think I'd need to 'borrow' a judge from another
society, though. I don't think we actually have one in PSLOS. Diana |

You mean there's a society in Florida that *doesn't* have an AOS judge as a member?? Wonders never cease! K Barrett "Diana Kulaga" wrote in message link.net... Good idea, Wendy. I think I'd need to 'borrow' a judge from another society, though. I don't think we actually have one in PSLOS. Diana |

So we had the senior judge go down the show and tell table and talk about some of the exceptional plants brought for show and tell. Too bad the judging had been the Sat. before. During this same time that put bright stickers on plants that rated a look over at judging. Net result I think was a couple of clerks and maybe two more people bringing plants to judging. I too marvel at the possibility of a FL OS with out a judge. SuE http://orchids.legolas.org/gallery/albums.php |

FWIW, SEPOS has informal judging at each meeting of all plants brought in
for the show table. It is a good way for folks to learn about what's good and not, how well prepared a plant was, etc., and at the end of the society year, awards are given for points accumulated. -- Ray Barkalow - First Rays Orchids - www.firstrays.com Plants, Supplies, Books, Artwork, and Lots of Free Info! .. Yes, I like that idea, Ray. Kathy did something similar to that (I found it
completely by accident while surfing around) in CA. That is an idea I intend to implement. Diana |
