Default Phal. violacea 'Malaysia' major problem

As you can see this seedling is on it's last legs (photo under the same
subject in abpo. It had another leaf that yellowed and fell off. All this
yellowing occured in about one week's time. It was planted in regular
orchid mix (which is what I use on all my phals), and it was in the tree
fern fiber pot. It is kept a bit shadier than the belina but is subject to
the same temperatures. All the other Phals (species) are doing fantastic
this one is dying. But is it really dying? the roots look healthy to me,
and no sign of rot, any idea? is it salvagable? is that a word?....

Help is greatly appreciated,
Mariana

Mariana, I visited a greenhouse yesterday and told the lady how nice the
place was but that I saw a couple of orchids that looked a little rough,
she said, I know, they die down then come back next year or whatever.
So hey, it might be a hybrid or something, don't throw it out til you
find out for sure. Good luck

Burr,
I have never heard of any Phal loosing it's leaves in the winter and then
coming back in the spring. Is there such a Phal?
I know of Dendrobiums that do that sort of thing, but not of any Phals,
Which does not mean that there isn't such a thing -- I just have not heard
about it yet, have you?

Violacea isn't deciduous... Lowii, lobbii, parishii I think can be
deciduous (or not, if grown warn all the time).

Actually, some of the Chinese species are - or can be. P. honghensis, for
example.

Healthy Phals don't "die down." Some orchids are deciduous, but Phals
aren't.

Phal wilsoni
Phal lowii
Phal lobbii
Phal parishii

And I'm certain a few more.

Well now that you mentioned it, no. BUT! I also have a phal. that
is part something else, Doritaenopsis. It is very healthy now. I can't
see what's causing the problem with one phal. and not all of them. But
like you said phals. don't usually do this. Burr
