Palm tree fronds turning yellow.
I have a small "Wedding Palm" Lytocaryum Weddellianum, and
it turning yellow/brown at the end of its fronds. Can this be due to too much sunlight? |

Hello Frank,
Palms can never get too much sunlight. Leaf yellowing can result from soil nutrient defficiencies or from disease. There might be a way to narrow down the cause of the yellowing if you can tell me more about it.Are all the leaves affected, or just the old ones, or the young ones? Greg |

Palm tree fronds turning yellow.
I bought the healthy-looking palm from a large department
store with very poor lighting. I replanted it into a larger pot being careful to retain all the existing soil, and I water it regularly. The yellowing occurs mainly on the sun side of the palm on the most mature fronds, and the young ones are quite healthy. It has been a hot summer here. Regards Frank. I don't know a whole heck of a lot about palms, but I do grow some of them.
I do know, and from some experience, that they are sensitive to lack of magnesium which is an essential element in chlorophyll. A teaspoon of epsom salts in a quart of water applied every 1-2 months on a 10-15 gal container works wonders. Palms also like good drainage. If your soil gets soggy, it may be killing off roots which of course can affect nutrient uptake. There are a number of other reasons for yellowing leaves. Knock it out of the pot and look at the roots. Is it a solid mass of roots with little dirt? Repot larger. Are there lots of dead roots? Trim off dead roots, shake off dirt, treat with fungicide such as Physan, repot smaller. "Greg" wrote in message om... Hello Frank, Palms can never get too much sunlight.
