Default leaping fish

Help, I just transplanted my fish (4 goldies and 2 shubunkins) from my old
pold into my new pond. The fish are all about 2 years old. The new pond has
a waterfall entering from above on one side. The fish seemed fine for the
1st two days but now they are prone to hanging around the bottom of the
falls and trying to leap upstream. Did they suddenly have a trout like urge
to migrate or is this a sign of something wrong in the water? Other than
that they sem happy. Any suggestions?
The old pond is similar in size, depth and shape to the old pond if this
matters. Just looks kind of weird

Have several shubunkins doing the same thing after a week of hiding under
the rock. One of them later finally sunk to the bottom on one beautiful
morning. Several of them later developed ich and I'm still battling with ich
a week later. The ich spot look smaller but I stilll could see several
spots. Dark spots are emerging on one. Hope this is not the black spot
disease. They all still eat like pig which is a good sign. Good luck..

Did you use the same water that was in your old pond?
Do you have supplemental aeration??
Sounds like your fish are crying for oxygen. Hook up an
air pump, with air stones attached. See if that doesn't help.

what was the temp of the water in the new pond compared to the old pond?
hanging around the waterfall persistently is an oxygen problem, could be they have
ich or flukes. Ingrid

Just as a guess, Id say the new pond is a tad colder than the older more
established (3y +) pond
I didnt think to take the temperature...how do i check for ich or flukes? The
little speedsters are tough enough to catch, never mind an exam :-)

get them to come to the top for food and eyeball them really well. koi with ich tend
to have red skin and the slime coat will be thick. that is, they wont be very
glossy. look for redness on the white koi and thick slime coat or a sprinkling of
"salt" on the black or dark fish. with flukes gill covers will be flared/stand out
away from the head rather than being pretty flat down. look for pumping of the gills
covers. at least add a bit of salt to the pond. keep a really close eye on water
quality including pH. Ingrid

When one notes odd or unusual behavior from one's fish, one should do a
water quality check. ~ jan

If it isn't, in this group, it should be. I'd be an intermediate, not a
master though. ;o) ~ jan
