Blue Koi
OK. I have not stopped thinking about the post about a blue koi. Yesterday,
I was tossing some dog food into the pond as an experiment, and one of my more dominant fish came up to gulp some down. When I bought him/her, he/she was a pale yellow. Now he/she is an oppalecnt golden yellow. AMAZING COLOR!!! I want a blue one!!! What variety are they? Are they expensive? -- BenignVanilla Pond Site: www.darofamily.com/jeff/links/mypond |

Still working on a picture. He/She is still small, about 5 inchs, but the
blue is still the same. I bought it as an import, I beleive belgian (sp?) or some b name close to that for only $7.95. It also has some shiny scales on its head. I bought another one with it, and it has the same shiny scales, but is an orange/yellow color. I'll post pictures as soon as I get them. Bob "BenignVanilla" wrote in message ... OK. Ironically, we have a koi we named "blue". Blue is very very yellow. He's called "blue" because he's so much bigger than the other fish that he's like a blue whale in comparison. It took someone else to point out how silly it was to call an all-yellow fish "blue" to us, as I hadn't even connected "blue whale" to a color. |

Can anyone recommend a good e-place for Koi in this price range? BV. |

I have seen koi that people had said are blue, when they're really just a
light gray. It wasn't till I saw one at a koi convention did I see a true blue (pardon the pun) koi. It was an asagi simlar to this: http://www.koi.com/encyclo/asagi.html but without the netting and the blue was true sky blue, the fish was a scaleless (leather skin) variety of asagi... and no, I didn't bother to ask the price, the old if you gotta ask.... ~ jan See my ponds and filter design: http://users.owt.com/jjspond/ ~Keep 'em Wet!~ Tri-Cities WA Zone 7a To e-mail see website |

He was only $18 at 2" with a nice color. He's now ~6" and the blue upper section is sky blue or maybe cornflower blue (in the Crayola color scale). I did a quick images.google.com search for a good pic of one to link to, but didn't really see one. They all had much less blue coloring than this little guy has. Maybe the blue is hard to photograph or tends to fade with time? garyr |

These sites have a couple of good shusui photographs; many pictures looked washed out and I think that's why the pale blue doesn't show so well. I also ran across a site that mentioned qualities for judging a shusui koi (sorry, can't find it again now) and it said that the red and dark blue should be separated by "pure white," which I think is the baby blue in the younger koi. http://www.thompsonaquaticgardens.com/hobbyist.htm http://www.koiextreme.com/koisales/shusui.htm http://www.asianarowana.com.my/koi/koi8.shtml http://www.koi-schmid.de/spezial/shu...dy_shusui.html http://www.auskoi.com/shusui_class_champion_.html We have a small hi shusui: it has more red on its head and back, but has the pale blue around the dorsal fin and the dark blue scales. He's "Baby Blue" as that is the color we could see first when he was a 1/2 inch fry. -- Zk |
