It's a common question so you might find more answers on Google but until
then, try pouring a little milk into the water at the edge of the pond to
see
where it flows towards.

If you have been having windy days combined with sun, it might not be a
leak, you can expect quite startling evaporation in that kind of weather.
You
might also check to see if a water from a fountain is blowing out of the
pond
rather than landing where it should.

Streams are very popular for leaks if you have one.

Good Luck.

Step 1 - Don't add water. Wait until the level stops dropping. Remove
fish if necessary.
Step 2 - Go carefully around the edge until you find the leak.
Step 3 - Mark with chalk so you can find the spot later.
Step 4 - Drop the water a few more inches
Step 5 - Patch - let set up recommended time
Step 6 - Refill a few inches higher than hole. Watch for more leaking.

I have heard of putting colored water in and watching for it to disappear
but don't know what you would use to color the water that wouldn't bother
the fish. Good Luck!
