Default I cant believe it.. The algae is gone from all the rocks!!

I redone my pond for the 3rd time in 1 year. I keep making it a little
bigger.. You know how that goes. Anyways I bought a bigger linner and
shoveled out a bigger hole. I didnt measure or anything but I would
guess its now about 7' wide and 5' front to back and about 20" deep.
When we bought the house the pond was there but it was tiny, barely
bigger than a 50 gallon drum on its side.
So after the reconstruction I decided to put river rock in the bottom
to make it look nicer than just black liner bottom. I was afraid it
would start looking like crap with algae and I was right. After a few
weeks the stones are covered with it. The water it clear as can be
though. no pea soup for me thanks to the Turbo-Twist UV Pond Clarifier.
I didnt have much in the way of plant yet only two small lilys and a
handfull of anacharis. By the way I live in Arizona and its in the low
100's everyday from mid june to mid sept. and lots of direct sunlight.
So the algae grows quick. So 2 weeks ago I bought 72 stems of anacharis
and put it in and I have been using my big umbrella from the pool to
provide shade and it seems all of the sudden I mean like in the last
two days all the rocks are algae free.. Yeah
I got some free water letuce from Muffin last week but it was destroyed
in transit so she said she would send me some more and I'll add that
and maybe something else that would provide some surface coverage.

Happy ponding,

Chris

Did you just give up on it, and toss it, or did you put it in the pond?

I also got a Muffin water lettuce box, and though much of it had separate
leaves, I'd say 80% or more is now very green and appears to be growing..
the separate leaves look to be dropping roots as well.

And since I put it in, my algae died off completely! My water clarity is 10
times what it was a week ago, and it was pea soup green, with no visibility
at all.

I just relocated some of the lettuce as an experiment into a small side pond
we have that's totally green.. if it changes as well, we'll know something
to do with the water lettuce kills algae.

I believe water-lettuce and water-hyacinth soaks up the nutrients the algae
needs to proliferate.

Yeah I put almost all of it in but after 4 days it was all yellow and I
didnt have any roots so i just scooped it all out yesterday. I took
pics of it before and after.

I had about 1/5th or less yellow, but the rest is bright green, and appears
fine.

I might also be closer to you, and might have gotten to the box quicker then
you did as well....
