For every pound of cotton there is 1.6 pounds of seed that is 20 some percent protein and has a high oil content. A top yielding cotton crop can take 80 bushes of seed to the acre off as well. That's were the fertilizer goes. It is not as high in fertilizer needs as many crops and if you get too much nitrogen it will not make fruit at all. But it is not a free crop. At dryland yields of 300 pounds to the acre it is difficult to get an economic response to fertilizer. Gordon |
