Trying to ID a mysterious fruit

These are SO regularly and distinctly segmented that there doesn't seem (to my untutored eye) to be any room for manoeuvre, to be honest. They are squat, rather than oblong, the segmentation is very distinct and in fact, is becoming more so as they desiccate.
